Dear recipient

As the final weeks of the Summer term draw to a close, I am constantly reminded of the fantastic experiences that form life here at Millfield for both pupils and staff.

I immensely enjoyed attending the Upper Sixth Leavers' Assembly at the start of this half term. It was a wonderful celebration of their time here at Millfield and congratulations to Mrs Bowring for organising such a fantastic commemoration. Read more

Congratulations must also go to Upper Sixth pupil Maddie Vaughan, who has won the prestigious Music Excellence Award at Winchester University to start next semester. Maddie, along with her fellow Upper Sixth music pupils gave a delightful Leavers' Concert on the 7th June.

I am delighted to announce that, in a rare opportunity and a first for Millfield, the NASA Crew of the US Space Shuttle Discovery’s final mission are to come to Millfield Senior and Prep Schools next Thursday 30th June to speak to pupils about their mission and of the core values of science, engineering, mathematics in space exploration.  We are filming the talk and will showcase it on our website to extend the opportunity to parents.

I want to wish those pupils who have taken exams over recent weeks the best of luck for their results, which will be published on the 18th August for A levels and 25th August for GCSE’s.

I hope that you have a very enjoyable summer and I look forward to welcoming you all at Parents' Day on Saturday 2nd July.

OM Careers Convention & Leavers' Talk

On 18th June the Higher Education & Careers department held the 4th annual OM Careers Convention for Lower Sixth students. Thirty Old Millfieldians generously gave up their weekend and returned to the School to give presentations on a whole range of careers.  The students were able to choose from such diverse areas as Architecture, Engineering, the Foreign Office, City Trading, IT and Psychiatry. Also, the Old Millfieldian Society was delighted to address this year’s Upper Sixth leavers at a special presentation on Tuesday 24th May. Over 200 pupils attended the evening, eager to learn how the Society can help them when they leave Millfield. Read more

Trinity Guildhall Speech & Drama Success

Trinity Guildhall Speech & Drama Success

L:R - Emily Littman & Emily Symonds-Willmott

Last term saw pupils from all years take their Trinity Guildhall Speech and Drama exams. Pupils achieved fantastic results and had very positive feedback from the visiting examiner. The results can be viewed here.

Following their exam pupils performed in the Drama Monologue Event, an excellent opportunity to share their hard work with the rest of the Millfield community. Congratulations to all involved.

This year's junior production, Dracula was well supported by staff and pupils alike and was a tremendous show of talent and hard work. Congratulations to Mr Barron for such a marvellous production. View Photos

I would also like to congratulate Alec Poore and Bethan Jones who have successfully auditioned and been selected for The National Youth Theatre this summer. They will both be entering NYT's summer programme of workshops in London during the holidays.

And finally, I would like to invite you to the Junior House Play Festival on Tuesday 27th July at 7pm. Our aim is to hold the event outside (weather depending) in Millfield's nature amphitheatre in front of Millfield House. This year's theme is Elvis! and I very much hope you can attend what promises to be an entertaining evening.

Atkinson Gallery - Summer Show

Atkinson Gallery - Summer Show

The Millfield Atkinson Gallery Summer Show is back for its 22nd year (11th July-13th August). Firmly established as one of the highlights of the exhibition calendar, the Show delivers tradition along with a contemporary twist, and is a popular exhibiting arena for locally based artists as well as contributions from further afield.

The Show’s range and diversity means there are pieces for everyone to appreciate, from the accessible to the more challenging and thought provoking. Above all it’s a celebration of the passion and energy of local artists with the added attraction of affordability of many works on display. Artists enjoy the added prestige of exhibiting at our fantastic gallery (one of the largest in the South West) and the chance to win prize money totalling £1500. Read more

The second annual Sports Colours' Dinner was a most memorable evening, celebrating this year's sporting life at Millfield and was this year extended to include a Sports Awards Ceremony. Brilliantly hosted by Upper Sixth pupils Laura Coates and James Byfield, the Awards celebrated not only excellence in sport but also values of leadership, teamwork and community spirit.
